Application process

Here is a detailed breakdown of the full application process.

  1. The competition will be managed by CPI on behalf of Innovate UK. 
  1. SMEs will complete an online application form, which asks questions about their innovation, challenges and how the Catapults can support them in their development. No financial estimates or quotes are required to apply. 
  1. SMEs can only submit one application  
  1. Applications will be assessed through a fair and open competition process using a panel of assessors.  
  1. Projects will be assessed against the following criteria: 
  • Technical merit – strength and novelty of the innovation. 
  • Technical feasibility – clarity of the development plan and achievability within the programme timeframe. 
  • Commercialisation strategy – feasibility of plan to secure further investment and reach the market  
  • Strategic alignment – fit with the programme objectives and alignment with Catapult capabilities. 
  1. To ensure balanced impact, the programme reserves the right to apply a portfolio approach in final selections. This may include considerations such as: 
  • Diversity of therapeutic areas and technologies supported. 
  • Balance between early-stage and later-stage innovations. 
  • Potential for near-term commercial and societal impact
