Process engineering design

CPI’s global award-winning Process Technology team has significant experience in the development of new and novel processes and technologies across all processing industries. We help you throughout your journey to commercialisation, by providing engineering services which include:

  • Technology assessments
  • Concept studies
  • Design and commissioning support
  • Economic assessments

We use the same approach to help you to improve and optimise existing processes on your journey to Net Zero.

Technology assessments

Technology assessments occur at any stage of technology development and can be adapted to meet your needs, e.g. a technology commercialisation risk assessment provides an overview of the key process risks for scaling up and commercialising the technology.

Concept studies

Fundamental engineering design taking information from initial laboratory experiments and literature reviews to produce an initial engineering design. Most studies would include at least the following key deliverables:

  • Boundary limit definitions
  • Process flow
  • Heat and mass balances
  • Equipment design basis
  • Process hazard assessments
  • Control and operating philosophies

Design and commissioning support

Engineering design support provides technical input into detailed design, procurement, installation, commissioning and operation of a process; ensuring that the process is designed, built and operated in line with its technical and commercial requirements.

Economic assessments

An economic assessment determines the economic viability of a process by estimating its capital and operating costs, the distribution of costs throughout the process, and highlighting which steps are major contributors and where improvements could be made.
