From new funding rounds and leadership hires to award wins and technical breakthroughs, our portfolio companies have delivered an impressive first half of 2025. Here’s a round-up of the latest news from January – June, followed by a snapshot of activity in July and August to keep things current.
January
Qkine partnered with REPROCELL to expand access to high-purity growth factors and cytokines, strengthening support for stem cell and organoid workflows. Qkine also announced a 2025 price freeze to help labs navigate tighter research budgets.
February
Graphene Composites joined a UK defence innovation roundtable to showcase its graphene-enhanced protection technologies.
Qkine partnered with Tolemy Bio to optimise media and protein inputs for advanced cell therapy manufacturing.
Applied Monitoring raised £500k investment (North East Venture Fund and Mercia Ventures) to commercialise its non-invasive lactate monitoring technology, moving towards fitness wearables and hospital applications.
March
QV Bioelectronics appointed Carl Daintree as COO, bringing extensive medtech, pharma, and biotech experience ahead of clinical milestones.
Q5D Technologies previewed its automated wiring robot, highlighting potential to reduce per-vehicle costs and errors in automotive manufacturing.
April
Graphene Composites joined NORDSEC, the Norwegian Security and Defence Industry Cluster, to contribute GC Shield technology to Nordic defence and emergency preparedness.
PolyPhotonix appointed John L. Brooks III as a key advisor to support the scale-up of its Noctura 400 sleep mask for diabetic retinopathy.
MarraBio expanded its Caf1-based biomaterials portfolio, launching new fibronectin- and vitronectin-mimicking variants.
BiologIC Technologies successfully won a £1million SMMIP grant from IUK to further develop their smart platform to reduce the cost of advanced therapies.
May
QV Bioelectronics secured £1.26m from Innovate UK to prepare for its first-in-human trial of the GRACE implanted electric field therapy device.
Qkine signed a distribution agreement with Quoll Biosciences, extending reach into Australia, New Zealand, and Oceania.
June
Evoralis won the Resource Recovery Start-up Award at the Circular Republic Festival 2025 in Munich.
Floreon Technologies was named Renewable Material Manufacturer of the Year at the 2025 Corporate LiveWire Innovation & Excellence Awards.
Q5D Technologies raised $13.5m (Series A led by Lockheed Martin Ventures, Chrysalix and Maven, plus Innovate UK funding) to expand its wiring automation platform.
DEScycle secured a strategic investment from Mitsubishi Corporation to advance e‑waste recycling using deep eutectic solvents.
Qualus’ Richard Smith won the Pitch & Invest Grand Final at Reset Connect, securing a place in the Startup World Cup final in San Francisco with the chance to win $1M.
July
Q5D Technologies announced plans to double the capacity of its Technical Assessment Centre in Bristol as demand for wiring automation surged.
Graphene Composites tested its GC Patrol Shields in storm conditions at South Shields Marine School, proving buoyancy and ballistic protection in severe maritime environments.
DEScycle joined the UK Critical Minerals Association, reinforcing UK supply chain resilience in critical minerals.
August
Cotton Mouton Diagnostics secured £500k investment from CPI Enterprises through the Innovate UK Catapult Investment Pilot to scale its sustainable αBET® endotoxin testing platform.
