CPI Tests and Demonstrates Small Scale AD Technology
19 Apr 2013
CPI successfully tests and demonstrates novel, small scale anaerobic digestion technology. CPI is leading the project and managing the consortium. Technology development and scientific work is being carried out at CPI’s Anaerobic Digestion Development Centre. The team at CPI is being supported by first class commercial, analytical and planning services from the project partners.
The project is successfully testing and demonstrating a novel, small scale, horizontally-oriented AD unit. The design separates the four key stages of AD and can accurately re-circulate feedstock to optimise performance in terms of resistance periods, throughput and temperature. Testing with dairy slurry and grass silage has been completed and further trials with mixed food waste and brewery wastes will be carried out in the coming months. Results to date are showing a significant improvement in biogas yield and, commercially, an AD concept that is well suited to being sited adjacent to a factory, farm or food outlet, for example.
As lead partner and inventor of the technology, CPI is patenting the design and a key project outcome will be a detailed commercial plan for market deployment. CPI is now engaging with new commercial collaborators to take the technology to the next stage and welcomes discussion with European partners.
