Supporting SMEs to start, scale and succeed in medicines manufacturing

CatapultRx is a collaborative programme designed to accelerate the growth of high-potential small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the UK medicines manufacturing sector.

Coordinated by CPI on behalf of Innovate UK, the programme brings together the expertise, specialist facilities and networks of CPI, Medicines Discovery Catapult and Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult to help businesses overcome technical challenges, accelerate innovation and progress towards commercialisation.

Supporting the development, delivery and manufacture of medicines, including small molecules, biopharmaceuticals, biologics and cell and gene therapies, CatapultRx aims to strengthen the UK's medicines manufacturing capabilities and support the growth of innovative businesses.

Overcoming barriers to innovation

SMEs play a vital role in developing the next generation of medicines and therapies. However, bringing new technologies and treatments to market can be complex, costly and resource-intensive.

Businesses often face significant challenges, including limited access to specialist infrastructure and investment, high development and validation costs, and navigating complex technical and regulatory requirements.

CatapultRx has been established to help address these barriers, providing businesses with access to world-class expertise, infrastructure and technical support to accelerate their development and commercial readiness.

Supporting SMEs from development to commercialisation

Through CatapultRx, SMEs can access tailored technical support across the medicines development and manufacturing journey.

The programme aims to:

Delivering impact for UK medicines manufacturing

By bringing together expertise from across the medicines innovation ecosystem, CatapultRx aims to help businesses accelerate development, improve manufacturing readiness and unlock opportunities for commercial growth.

The programme supports wider ambitions to strengthen the UK's position in medicines manufacturing by:

  • Helping innovative SMEs grow and scale.

  • Accelerating the translation of promising science into commercially viable medicines.
