Next generation diagnostics: From opportunity to delivery

Next Generation Diagnostics (NG-Dx) is building a first-of-its-kind community across the cancer diagnostics ecosystem, bringing together the organisations that shape the science, technology, clinical evidence, regulation, adoption and investment needed to move new diagnostics into patient care.

The community now includes most of the world’s leading diagnostics companies, many of the largest global pharma companies, major technology and AI organisations, emerging innovators, the NHS, leading clinicians and scientists, universities, regulators, patient organisations, national innovation centres, R&D organisations and UK government.

That breadth is what makes NG-Dx different. Rather than addressing individual parts of the translation pathway in isolation, NG-Dx brings the organisations responsible for each part of that pathway into the same community to identify shared barriers, define what needs to change and build projects that no single organisation could deliver alone.

Our current UK government-funded programme began with three major challenges:

• ctDNA and sample preparation – improving recovery for earlier detection and recurrence monitoring

• Clinical proteomics and workflow standardisation – improving robustness, reproducibility and comparability across workflows, laboratories and platforms

• Multi-omics data architecture – connecting fragmented molecular, imaging and clinical data for decision-making

More than 150 members of the community have now helped refine these challenges, shape the wider industry and translation strategy around them, and identify the next barriers that need to be addressed.

Several priorities are emerging for future projects:

• Standardising where it matters, so evidence can be trusted and compared across technologies, laboratories and platforms

• Connecting fragmented cancer data, including molecular, imaging and clinical information, to enable more powerful multi-omics approaches

• Generating clinical evidence faster, reducing the time and risk involved in moving promising technologies towards adoption

• Focusing development around genuine unmet clinical needs, rather than developing technology in isolation

• Designing regulation, reimbursement and adoption into projects from the outset, rather than treating them as barriers to solve at the end

• Building the skills, infrastructure and clinical confidence needed for implementation at scale

Together, these priorities define a wider pathway for translating next-generation diagnostics into patient impact:

Connect existing science → standardise for a purpose → build data foundations → generate evidence faster → develop for value → clear the regulatory path → ready the workforce → earn clinical trust

What will happen in November?

Around 200 global industry leaders, patient representatives, scientific and clinical experts and other members of the NG-Dx community will come together to review progress, shape future project directions and build the collaborations needed to move them forward.

The event will:

• Review progress and future directions for the current NG-Dx projects

• Present the priority challenges and project opportunities emerging from the wider community

• Develop focused use cases and project scopes around areas of genuine clinical and industry need

• Bring together organisations interested in shaping, joining, supporting, co-funding or delivering projects

• Explore opportunities for industry investment, collaboration and potential UK government support

• Help determine which projects and partnerships should move forward next

The NG-Dx meeting in June helped bring the community together and define many of the challenges.

November is about turning that shared understanding into projects, partnerships and delivery.

Who should attend?

The event is relevant to diagnostics and life-science companies, pharma, technology and AI organisations, academics, clinicians, healthcare professionals, patient organisations, regulators, funders, investors, policymakers and organisations supporting the development, translation and adoption of new diagnostic technologies.

Places are limited. Our June event reached capacity four weeks in advance and registration had to close early, so we recommend registering as soon as possible using the form below.

Due to strict venue capacity limits, we will be unable to admit anyone who has not registered in advance.
