About CPI

CPI helps make great ideas and inventions a reality. We’re a team of intelligent people using advances in science and technology to solve the biggest global challenges in healthcare and sustainability.

Through our incredible people and innovation infrastructure, we collaborate with our partners in industry, academia, government, and the investment community to accelerate the development and commercialisation of innovative products.

From health technologies and pharmaceuticals to sustainable food and materials innovations, we turn the entrepreneurial spirit and radical thinking of our people and partners into incredible impact that makes our world a better place.

The role

CPI have an exciting opportunity available for 2 students working towards a degree in relevant science disciplines to join the Biologics department across our 5 technical teams (synthetic & mammalian upstream processing / microbial upstream processing / downstream processing / analytical / digital & automation) based at the National Biologics Manufacturing Centre in Darlington, to support various crucial and exciting projects.

Through the development of innovative approaches and processes you could help CPI to solve some of the biggest challenges the industry face. You will have the opportunity to be involved in many varied and exciting projects (from lab scale right through to pilot scale).

This is a unique cross-team role designed to give placement students end-to-end exposure across biologics process development, including upstream (USP), downstream (DSP), analytical and digital integration. Rather than specialising too early, you will rotate across teams or contribute to projects spanning the full lifecycle - building a broad understanding of how biologics are developed, processed, and characterised. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop a well-rounded skillset across the full bioprocessing pipeline, working on a variety of modalities including monoclonal antibodies, recombinant proteins, mRNA, and viral vectors.

Due to CPI's collaborative nature, although the opportunities vary, each will provide you with experience of working across multidisciplinary teams, supporting colleagues on activities within the synthetic & mammalian upstream, microbial upstream, downstream processing, analytical, and digital & automation teams to support both commercial and internal projects.

At CPI we work with our partners to translate inventions into products and processes that enhance health and well-being, protect, and improve our environment and increase productivity across industries.

With a deep understanding of innovation processes and funding, outstanding technical expertise, and industry relevant assets, we enable products and processes to be quickly and cost-effectively brought to market. This supports the development of next-generation manufacturing, highly skilled jobs, and economic growth for the UK.

Our partners operate across many diverse markets including pharmaceuticals, speciality chemicals, food and drink, electronics, and transportation.

More details are available in the attached job description.
