Here we meet Becky Fields. Becky joined CPI as a Marketing and Communications Executive and has continued to develop herself professionally through to her current role, where she’s now a Marketing and Communications Business Partner with a focus on sustainability projects. Read more about Becky’s journey and why she chose CPI below.

What do you do at CPI?

I am a Marketing and Communications Business Partner, initially overseeing our formulation, biotechnology, and electronics capabilities, and more recently being the marketing lead for sustainability at CPI. This means I spend time with the technical leads to understand our capabilities and technology offerings, and then I develop strategies to advertise CPI’s services to deep tech innovators and businesses.

What did you do before joining CPI?

I’ve worked in marketing and communications for over 10 years now. I graduated from university when I was 21 with an events management degree. At the time, the UK was at the height of the recession and there were very few marketing and communications jobs available, so I applied for a secretary and admin role within Sembcorp in the chemical industry.

Since then, I’ve continued to develop myself professionally and looked out for opportunities where possible to further my career within marketing and communications. I was promoted to PR Officer where I looked after all the press and media for Sembcorp, and I also worked in a communications agency on secondment to give me a little bit more experience. For my development as a marketer, I thought it was important to have experience both in an in-house’ team and within an external agency. Then, I joined CPI as a Marketing and Communications Executive.

Why did you join CPI?

CPI stood out to me because it was similar to the industry that I’d already worked in – the chemical industry. Since I joined CPI, we’ve been on a huge journey to where we are now. Initially, it was the industry that attracted me to CPI but now it really goes so much further than that and it’s all about the real-world challenges that the CPI teams work on and the processes and techniques that will be used in our future world – that excites me every day!

What do you like about working at CPI?

No day is the same at CPI! We work across a vast range of markets, it’s fast-paced but that’s why I love it. There’s a lot to love about being a modern marketer. Our profession is becoming both more creative, and more technical at the same time. At CPI I have always felt empowered due to our strong learning and development culture that really nurtures you as an employee.

I really love being part of an in-house marketing team, creating campaigns with teams that really believe in those key messages and values. The stories we tell empower me to share them in innovative and creative ways, and working across a variety of teams in my role where I receive up-to-the-minute data to share with the world, makes my job super enjoyable. I get to tell the world CPI’s story and build relationships, all while having fun and genuinely helping people.
