UK hydrogen technology accelerator drives commercial momentum for clean tech startups

The HIIdrogen NEXT accelerator, led by Sustainable Ventures and supported by CPI with backing from Innovate UK, has engaged 56 hydrogen-focused businesses from across the UK, providing targeted support designed to unlock investment and market access. 

Over the course of the programme, the cohort will be equipped with enhanced commercial skills through a series of workshops held in London, Manchester, Glasgow and Belfast. 

From this group, 15 companies have been selected to receive tailored support, combining technical assistance from the Catapults with intensive commercial coaching from Sustainable Ventures. These organisations are now deepening their proof-of-concept work, pursuing early partnerships, and preparing to attract investor interest as part of the programme’s outcomes-driven model. 

HIIdrogen NEXT operates under the umbrella of the UK’s Hydrogen Innovation Initiative (HII) – a collaboration between industry, government, research organisations and academic institutions committed to building a globally competitive hydrogen technology and services sector. The initiative aims to bolster domestic hydrogen supply chains, drive decarbonisation and secure high-value jobs for UK industry into the future. 

Built for speed and impact, the accelerator combines practical technical validation, investor-readiness support, and strategic market access. The programme culminates in a Capstone Showcase, connecting founders with corporate off-takers and capital partners to help them scale beyond pilot stages. 

As the hydrogen economy continues to evolve, programmes like HIIdrogen NEXT represent an important step in bridging innovation and commercial success, reinforcing the UK’s role in the global clean energy transition while creating new opportunities for economic growth. 

HIIdrogen NEXT is the sixth accelerator programme to be delivered under HII.
