Mumbai: Market insight and industry engagement

The delegation’s visit began in Mumbai with engagement at CHEMTECH World Expo 2026, one of India’s flagship events for the chemical, pharmaceutical and advanced manufacturing sectors. During the first leg of the programme, delegates met with government officials, industry leaders, investors and prospective collaborators to gain insight into India’s rapidly evolving life sciences landscape and market opportunities.

The delegation was welcomed on the first day in Mumbai by Jamie Scattergood, Deputy Head of Mission, and Mark Birrell, Trade Counsellor for Business and Trade, at the British Deputy High Commission Mumbai, with support from the British High Commission in India.

Gareth Wynn Owen, British Deputy High Commissioner, Hyderabad British High Commission in India, said: The UK – India partnership in life sciences and biomanufacturing continues to go from strength to strength. Delegations such as this play a vital role in connecting innovative UK SMEs with India’s dynamic ecosystem, supporting collaboration, trade and investment. We are pleased to support CPI and the delegation as they build relationships that contribute to shared growth and the ambitions set out in the UK – India Vision 2035.”

Hyderabad: Deepening collaboration and R&D exchange

Following the Mumbai programme, the delegation travelled to Hyderabad for a series of site visits and strategic discussions with leading innovation partners. Highlights included visits to IKP Knowledge Park and the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD), enabling deeper scientific dialogue and R&D exchange.

The delegation was joined in Hyderabad by Gareth Wynn Owen, who engaged directly with SMEs throughout the visit.

In Hyderabad, delegates were welcomed by senior industry leaders, including Dr Satya Prakash Dash, CEO of IKP Knowledge Park, who shared insights on the global biomanufacturing landscape and opportunities for UK – India collaboration.

Dr Satya Prakash Dash, CEO, IKP Knowledge Park, said: It was a pleasure to welcome CPI and the UK SME delegation to IKP Knowledge Park. The visit highlighted the strong alignment between the UK and India in advancing biomanufacturing, life sciences and sustainable innovation. We see significant opportunity for collaboration across R&D, scale-up and commercialisation, and this engagement marks an important step towards building long-term partnerships that can deliver global impact.”
