Turning innovation into impact: Removing barriers for MedTech spinouts in the UK

The UK benefits from a world-class research base and strong university innovation ecosystem, yet early-stage MedTech ventures struggle to translate discoveries into commercial success. This report examines systemic barriers faced by spinouts through insights from ten University Technology Transfer Offices (TTOs) across the UK, including Imperial College London, University of Cambridge, UCL, and others. Drawing on in-depth interviews with TTO leaders, the findings highlight five key areas of concern that hinder spinout growth and limit their ability to deliver real-world healthcare impact.
