Mike is Deputy Vice Chancellor and Provost at Durham University where he serves on Senate, Council and the Executive Board. He provides pan-university strategic leadership, working to maintain and develop a world-leading environment for research and education across a comprehensive range of disciplines.  

He joined Durham in 2023 from the University of Warwick where he was Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International), led the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Medicine, and was Head of Chemistry. Prior to that, he held positions at Colorado State, Exeter and Loughborough Universities. 

Mike is a chemical scientist who has taught and undertaken research in organic chemistry for 30 years.  He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and Chartered Chemist (FRSC, CChem) and is a past recipient of the Royal Society of Chemistry's Meldola Medal, and an EPSRC Advanced Research Fellowship.
