CPI have significant experience in developing materials for solution processed organic thin film transistor (OTFT) backplanes for displays. This technology has the potential to make very thin and ultra-flexible display backplanes, capable of driving reflective or emissive e-paper or OLED displays. Our industrially trained staff and advanced facilities are ideal for prototyping display backplanes at up to 370 x 470 mm substrate size. CPI has a track record of successful programs carried out for external clients in evaluating and/or developing materials for use in OTFT fabrication using a range of coating techniques. CPI’s materials formulation capability is complemented by the recently installed photolithography line, a pilot production scale toolset to aid clients in fabricating large area, flexible organic thin film transistor (OTFT) backplanes. The high resolution wide area line has the ability to handle substrates of size 8 inch, 12 inch and GEN 2 scale (370mm x 470mm) in a cassette and builds upon the pre-existing 4 – 8 inch manual load and single plate photolithography/etch capability at CPI. Clients can commission scale up of prototypes either by CPI staff or alternatively work within the open access facility themselves, both options allowing fast development of their product and integration into large area electronics. The line is unique of its scale for an open access facility in Europe and one of only a few available worldwide.
CPI’s assets and expertise provide display and materials manufacturers the ability to fabricate OTFT backplanes for fully flexible displays and if necessary integrate OTFTs with other printed electronic components such as sensors or memory. In addition, CPI also has extensive formulation capability allowing clients to develop products and processes quickly and cost effectively with minimal risk all under one roof before moving towards manufacturing scale.
