Introduction

As the UK’s largest industry, the built environment and construction industry accounts for a massive amount of the country's materials consumption and generates one third of all waste products from industrial operations. If the UK is to successfully become a low carbon, energy secure economy, the built environment and construction industry must respond to the challenge to meet increasing demand by growing and renewing building stock in a way which is energy and waste efficient.

Encouraging businesses to develop resource efficient products, minimise waste in refurbishment, and maximise re-use, are small changes that can have a dramatic effect on the environment around us.
