The Role

Fixed term for 8 weeks, 37 hours per week.

CPI’s Formulation department is providing an opportunity for a summer placement student to join its existing team. The placement opportunity will allow the student to gain hands on experience working with nanomaterials and printing techniques such as screen printing along with working in a research laboratory environment. The student will contribute to the Bodysense project developing novel, biocompatible and biodegradable, sensing devices. This will include the synthesis of nanoparticles and formulation of inks as well as characterisation of these materials.

Duties of the role include:

  • Lab based formulation of materials including synthesis of nanoparticles and the production and testing of inks.
  • Report findings clearly and concisely.
  • Carry out lab work to a high standard including clearly recording and documenting methodologies, and processing and analysing data.
  • Contribute to project reports and form conclusions to advise future work.
  • Work in line with CPI’s SHE policies to maintain a safe laboratory environment and participating in writing of relevant safety documentation. This will include opportunities to learn on the safe handling of nanomaterials.

The Person

We are seeking to recruit a candidate who is educated to A Level in Chemistry and currently undertaking a degree (or equivalent) in a Chemistry/Chemical Engineering/Physics or a related field. Candidates must have experience of technical writing, problem solving, working to deadlines and communication skills together with experience of Microsoft Office applications. The ideal candidate will be committed to and actively seek opportunities to develop themselves within the role.
