The Role

Fixed term for 12 weeks, 37 hours per week

CPI’s Formulation department is providing an opportunity for a summer placement student to join its existing team. The placement opportunity will allow the student to gain hands on experience developing and testing efficient, reproducible and controlled methods for data analysis for various types of experimental data. The role will also involve using software tools to capture data in a structured format to improve existing procedures.

Duties of the role include:

  • Work in a safe manner complying with relevant Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) requirements.
  • Undergo training for use of pipeline pilot software and pilotscript programming language.
  • Create pipeline pilot protocols to standardise analysis of experimental data. This could be data sets from various experimental procedures used in the formulation platform including data captured by the electronic lab notebook.
  • Communicate with scientists effectively to get iterative feedback and ensure analytical tools developed are usable and useful.
  • To formally report software used, methods, calculations and results clearly in a suitable format.
  • Possibility to develop methods of capturing data from lab equipment in a controlled and structured format.

The Person

We are seeking to recruit a candidate who is educated to A level or equivalent in STEM subjects, particularly science and mathematics and currently undertaking a degree in a relevant scientific/technical discipline. The successful candidate should have experience and a keen interest in programming along with a systematic way of thinking. Candidates must have a good understanding of mathematics and data analysis used for scientific analysis together with being able to effectively communicate, problem solve, be willing to learn and gain practical experience. It is desirable that candidates have some knowledge and experience of dataflow programming (LabVIEW, Pipeline pilot).
