The Role

CPI’s Industrial Biotechnology and Biorefining (IBB) department are providing an opportunity for a placement student to join its existing team. The placement opportunity will allow the student to gain hands on experience of working in an analytical laboratory, analysing a range of products and intermediaries using a variety of analytical techniques such as HPLC, GC, and AAS. Duties of the role include:

  • To provide daily instrument and calibration checks
  • To prepare samples, calibration standards and checking standards
  • To analyse samples using primarily HPLC, Ion Chromatography and GC
  • To maintain accurate laboratory notebooks, data collection and collation into reports
  • General laboratory administration: updating inventories etc.

The Person

We are seeking to recruit a candidate who is qualified to A Level or equivalent in either Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Maths. We will also consider a passionate scientist currently working towards this qualification. The successful candidate should have a flexible and methodical approach to work and have strong numeracy skills. Applicants should be enthusiastic, have effective interpersonal skills with a high attention to detail and be willing to learn to gain hands on/practical experience.
