Why this role is important for CPI’s work

You will be responsible for providing high-level technical expertise and leadership in order to deliver large scale / complex projects and develop business-unit level knowledge and practice. Projects that you would be required to lead on include Techno-Economic Modelling & Technology Roadmap Development and future cGMP Manufacture Projects covering large scale manufacturing biochemical engineering with quality and safety assessments as phases of projects which move to Bioprocess tech transfer for GMP Manufacture. As a principal engineer you will act as a credible technical expert for the organisation, drawing upon a broad range of technical know-how to provide technical expertise and advice to a range of stakeholders, in order to inform technical strategy and direction. You will also be required to line manage up to 5 direct reports.

The person we are seeking

We are looking for an individual who: 

  • Will possess significant, technical expertise in Biochemical Engineering for Vaccine & GMP Operations, as well as a compelling evidence of complex technical problem solving.
  • Will exhibit professional mastery of principles and practices for Biochemical Engineering for Vaccine & GMP Operations gained through a career in area of expertise.
  • Can demonstrate evidence of building cross-industry and organisational knowledge sharing and network building. 
  • Can provide examples of actively building cross-organisation collaboration to achieve desired results. 
  • Is a recognised industry expert in Biochemical Engineering for Vaccine & GMP Operations, as well as having broader technical knowledge and capability, and ability to apply in a variety of contexts.
  • Is able to take responsibility for diverse or complex technical activities where it is necessary to use own initiative and judgement, implementing innovative solutions in business critical situations 

It is essential that the individual meets at least one of the below criteria: 

  • Educated to HNC or Foundation Degree level (or equivalent) in a Scientific/​Engineering discipline plus significant and in-depth industrial experience at an expert level 
  • Educated to Degree level (or equivalent) in a Scientific/​Engineering discipline plus significant industrial experience at an expert level 
  • Educated to Master Degree level (or equivalent) plus significant industrial experience at a very senior level 
  • Educated to PhD level (or equivalent) in a Scientific/​Engineering discipline plus significant industrial experience at a senior level 

It is desirable that the individual:

  • Is an active member of a professional body 
  • Has chartered status with a relevant professional institution (i.e. chartered engineer with IChemE)
  • Has training as HAZOP lead, and authorised for Pressure System Relief Stream Assessments
  • Has experience of direct management of validation projects for Biopharmaceutical cGMP Facility/​Projects.
