Why this role is important for CPI’s work

The Centre for Process Innovation are seeking to recruit a number of 12-month placement students to deliver elements of collaborative research and development projects in the formulation area (the project assigned can be from a range of different sectors, including food, pharma, home & personal care, aerospace & automotive or paints & coatings). As the placement student, you will work with colleagues on the design and technical delivery of projects that require formulation input. 

Duties of the role include:

  • Discussing project needs; set up, plan and execute scientific experiments and analyse, interpret and report results to agreed timescales
  • Provide clearly documented records of technical data, decisions, methodologies, calculations and software using an agreed format
  • Contribute to the delivery of Formulation projects through the provision of science knowledge
  • Apply measurement techniques to demonstrate material properties

The person we are seeking

Candidates should be educated to at least A level in Chemistry, Physics, Engineering or a related field and will have demonstrated, laboratory experience in using common laboratory equipment. Training would be provided in the relevant process and/​or measurement equipment required to deliver the assigned project. Applicants must be able to effectively use Microsoft packages such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint. The ideal candidate will be committed to, and actively seek opportunities to develop themselves within this new and exciting role. 

These positions would suit students whose course includes a sandwich year in industry, or those able to take a placement opportunity in industry between academic years.

The role is fixed term, for 12 months. 

Start date: From July 2020 (for academic year 2020/21)
