Why this role is important for CPI’s work
CPI has an exciting opportunity for two experienced Process Engineers to join the well-established and growing Process Technology team based at NETPark, Sedgefield. You will apply your knowledge and skills gained throughout your career to lead development of new and often novel processes and technologies across a range of industries. You will be responsible for creating solutions to novel problems, surrounded by a team of experts and with training provided as required.
The Process Technology team looks at technical transfer of lab scale process from client to CPI, investigates and optimises the process chemistry, looks at batch scale up and continuous process design, and designs full scale commercial plant. The team also oversees chemical and process safety. The Process Technology team is made up of a number of Scientists and Engineers, whose expertise covers many areas of the chemical process industry (organic, inorganic, large and small scales), and brings a unique perspective to the solving of a wide range of practical process issues.
Duties of the role will include:
- Providing Process Engineering expertise to identify, develop and lead delivery of large scale / complex projects
- Acting as a technical expert for the organisation, to develop a broad range of technical know-how and to provide advice and solutions to a range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Working within a multi-disciplined team of engineers, scientists and physicists to develop new processes and technologies across a range of industries.
The Process Technology team have worked on a variety of projects across a range of industries some of which include:
Designing, running and optimising a pilot plant for a new continuous graphene oxide purification process, and producing a front-end process engineering design
Undertaking a preliminary process design and economic assessment for a process that produces new battery material
Undertaking a technology scale-up assessment and advising the customer on the development of a new air cleaning technology
A key project the team have recently being working on is Waste2Fresh.
The person we are seeking
You will be educated to at least Degree level in Chemical Engineering or a closely related subject and working towards your IChemE Chartership. You will have relevant experience, preferably within a range of process industries. You will be able to effectively use Microsoft packages such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys working in a continually changing environment, dealing with and managing uncertainty, constantly learning new technologies and processes, using their technical knowledge to solve new and complex problems, and adapts to new ways of working. Previous LCA experience is an advantage but not essential.

Mass / Energy balance
P&ID development
Preliminary: control, operating, basis of safety
Risk assessments
Process safety
