Why this role is important for CPI’s work

CPI has an exciting opportunity for a Research Scientist to join CPI’s Nanopharmaceutical Formulation team in a new, rapidly growing and strategically important area for CPI and UK innovation. This new and exciting role is ideal if you are committed to and actively seek opportunities to develop yourself and can quickly adapt to different aspects of a role and enjoy working in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

You will use your experience within advanced drug delivery to deliver a range of innovation projects, under the supervision of your line manager and senior colleagues, from early-stage formulation and optimisation studies to scale-up of the final drug product. You will support small and medium projects of varying complexity within the area of preventative and therapeutic drug delivery, from novel vaccines to advanced oncology treatments. 

The project focus will continually shift to solve current global health issues using advanced drug delivery technology; therefore, you will be part of a team that creates innovative solutions to problem-solving and will continuously be working within a dynamic and fast-moving environment, such that no two projects are the same. Using your transferrable skills and knowledge you may also be expected to deliver on a wide range of market sectors, including FMCG, Food and Drink, Agritech, Speciality Chemicals and Materials.

Key duties include:

Providing non-solid dose pharmaceutical formulation experience to contribute to the delivery of a range of projects, using industry-based knowledge to solve complex technical challenges.

Supporting the team to keep up to date with new developments in the advanced drug delivery field, to expand CPIs capability in the area.

Working within a team to deliver technical projects to agreed timescales.

Managing your own work plan to execute experimental work, including relevant measurement and analysis techniques to characterise properties relevant to colloidal and pharmacological performance.

Interpreting and reporting experimental results for internal peer review

Consistently delivering high-quality work, including during the operation of lab equipment, recording of data, documentation of decisions and reporting of results.

Developing and maintaining safe working practices for the handling of active pharmaceutical ingredients.

The person we are seeking

The successful candidate will be educated to a minimum of HNC level in a Scientific discipline, education to a degree level would be advantageous ideally Pharmacology (preferred), Physical Chemistry or a related field alongside industrial experience in a relevant sector. 

Will have experience in using common laboratory equipment for creating Nanopharmaceutical formulations and measuring colloidal properties (e.g., characterisation and stability of dispersions). 

Will be able to demonstrate skills and experience in prioritising and tackling technical challenges and leveraging input from key stakeholders are essential to be successful in this role.

Applicants must be able to effectively use Microsoft packages such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Your role level will depend largely on your previous experience.

Desirable

Experience in Nanopharmaceutical applications such as encapsulation of active pharmaceutical ingredients and the analysis of formulated drug products is desirable.

Chartered status with a relevant professional institution.

Additional information

Interviews will begin week commencing 12th December and will be in a 2‑stage format. You will be required to give a 15 – 20-minute presentation on a technical project which will demonstrate your experience in Advanced Drug Delivery or a related field. The presentation should be based on a project where you were responsible for delivering and include technical challenges and how you overcame them.
