Imagine being a senior leader working at the technology cutting edge for advanced therapies. We have that opportunity available with the Centre for Process Innovation (CPI), where they are working on viral vectors, RNA vaccines, therapeutic proteins, nanomedicines and microbial therapeutics.
Founded in 2004 to help companies embrace and prosper from new technologies and knowledge, CPI is an independent, not for profit technology innovation centre and part of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult. They work with universities, investors, SMEs and large corporates to translate inventions and concepts into products and processes that enhance health and well-being, protect and improve our environment and increase productivity across industries.
The Director of Biologics & RNA Centre of Excellence is responsible for the development of a key CPI centre, the National Biologics Manufacturing Centre. With state-of-the-art facilities in Darlington, comprising of 13 BSL1 and BSL2 flexible laboratories, CPI is developing cost-effective GMP compliant processes. They utilise specialised scaled-down and high throughput systems to accelerate the development and optimisation of bioprocesses before scaling up to maximise the yield, purity and quality of the product. What’s the job?
Reporting to the Managing Director for the division you will be overseeing a wealth of world-class equipment and people that spans strain characterisation, upstream and downstream processing, formulation and stability through to pre-clinical trials, technology transfer and GMP production.
You will put a sustainable growth strategy in place to ensure the long-term success of the Biologics capability and work with a growing 100 strong team to deliver every time for customers. A key part of the role is ‘horizon scanning’; it’s vital that CPI stay one step ahead of the demands of industry, trends in innovation and anticipating the next wave of developments; making sure they are equipped to help their customers respond. You will also be forging CPI’s and your own reputation amongst senior government stakeholders, industry big hitters and high potentials SME’s.
There is a lot going on currently; for example, CPI is developing RNA capability to support the UK vaccines task force to stay ahead of COVID-19. Through the creation of the UK’s RNA centre of excellence, they are expanding their facility to include additional GMP capability, advanced RNA technologies and a world-class team of scientists.
The person we are seeking
Change is a constant at CPI, so we are seeking someone with the aptitude and leadership skills to create and drive forward a new strategy that’s cutting edge and world-class. A motivational leader, you’ll build a high performing team that’s equipped to work with pace and precision whilst never losing sight of SHEQ.
No two customers are the same, so you’ll need to convince us you’re sensitive to what different clients need and capable of inspiring a culture of customer focus. You will understand what we mean if you have worked in a development environment as well as in manufacturing operations.
Beyond that, your CV should have significant industrial experience in a senior position, ideally including working in the healthcare/pharmaceutical industries and dealing with government agencies.
CPI support hybrid and flexible working, but a reasonable proportion of your week will be spent in Darlington.
