Why this role is important for CPI’s work

CPI has exciting opportunities for available two students to join a small team of technology and innovation engineers working with cutting edge technologies. The Technology & Innovation in team in CPI works across CPI business units and the High-Value Manufacturing Catapult (HVMC) to develop an understanding of key emerging technologies and the new opportunities they open up. 

In this role you will support the analysis of emerging areas including advancements in materials, chemicals, biotechnology, electronics, and medical technologies in context of applications in fields such as healthcare, medicines, formulated products, environmental sustainability, circular economy, digitalisation, and climate change.

You will require an interest in next generation products and solution development, in particular those that will help address the challenges faced by the UK and globe such as climate change, Net Zero by 2050, improvements in healthcare and the need to drive economic growth across the regions in the UK

Key responsibilities

  • Support CPI staff and engineers in desktop research and analysing of emerging process, product, and manufacturing technologies and their current and future application areas
  • Supporting the identification of market and industrial needs, drivers, dynamics, and trends 
  • Support engagement with stakeholders, in particular CPI Business Units, HVMC Centres, Industry, Academia and Government to understand needs 
  • Support development of new project ideas to harness the opportunities offered by emerging technologies
  • Support development of technology roadmaps for future foresights and applications 

Support the management of assigned activities including organisations meetings and workshops, capturing notes and minutes. 

The roles are fixed term for 12 months from July 2022, working 37 hours per week (Monday — Friday).

The person we are seeking

The ideal candidates will be undertaking a Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Business discipline, ideally with an interest of innovation and technology applications. Candidates should be keen to make a positive contribution to CPI and willing to learn new skills and research new topic areas. In addition, applicants will have excellent team playing skills for establishing sustainable and professional relationships both internally and externally. Applicants must be able to effectively use Microsoft packages such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

These positions would suit students whose course includes a sandwich year in industry, or those able to take a placement opportunity in industry between academic years.
