Why this role is important for CPI’s work
CPI’s Business Development team are seeking to recruit a placement student to support the development and execution of plans to grow income in alignment with the business development strategy which contributes to the successful and sustainable growth of CPI. This is an exciting opportunity for a student to work within a leading technology innovation centre, where they will be engaging in a broad variety of sectors such as net zero, sustainability, new battery materials and complex medicines, with the aim of supporting the goal to advance innovation in these areas. The successful candidate will be passionate about supporting the growth, development and commercial advancement of UK and global companies in this area. Potential areas for the student to engage in will be:
- Prospecting for (identification and initial communication to) new clients
- Prospecting for commercial opportunities in the UK and globally.
- Prospecting for local small to medium enterprises (SME’s) to join CPI’s funded outreach programmes.
- Qualification of leads
- Learning about and inputting appropriate data to CPI’s Customer Relationship Management tool
- Supporting the existing business development cohort at CPI
- Supporting the existing Sales Operations team to add value to customer management and maintenance.
Please note: the location of this role can be fully office based or a combination of home working and office (main base in Sedgefield). Travel may be required to other CPI sites in the region.
The role is fixed term for 12 months from July 2022, working 37 hours per week (Monday — Friday).
The person we are seeking
The ideal candidate will ideally be studying for an MBA with a strong interest in scientific fields or studying in a scientific or maths field with a strong interest in business development and being in a customer-facing role. The candidates should be looking to advance their knowledge in the areas of customer interaction, sales, and sales process understanding. The ideal candidate will be good at relationship building and possesses excellent listening skills. The student will be expected to demonstrate empathy and client centricity, have resilience, and be enthusiastic and eager to learn new things and help solve problems. In addition, we are looking for candidates who are confident and comfortable at grasping and explaining complex technical concepts if needed.
