Why this role is important for CPI’s work

To support the growing UK vision to develop capability in vaccine product development and manufacturing to ensure future pandemic preparedness, and to enhance the UK’s global leadership role in vaccine innovation. CPI is recruiting a Principal Scientist to join a multidisciplinary team reporting to the Head of Technology Strategy within CPI’s National Formulation Centre.

For this exciting role, the ideal candidate will have a broad skill set in relation to vaccine development, ideally through extensive experience working in this field in industry. You will possess a proven ability to take a lead role in advanced vaccine formulation to support a range of projects, primarily looking at developing alternative technologies for needle-free vaccination. Through a clear understanding of the cascade of activities required for pre-clinical & clinical vaccine development, including activities relating to non-clinical safety and chemistry manufacturing and controls (CMC), you will help to shape, develop, and deliver strategic programmes to accelerate vaccine formulations in the UK. This will require technical skills to support the development and optimisation of new vaccine formulations, providing a line of sight to the steps required to obtain regulatory approval for undertaking all phases of clinical trials and for commercialisation.

An interest in shaping and developing CPI’s technology strategy and translating this into deliverable plans to achieve business objectives

A thorough understanding of the drug development pathway to enable the build of work programs to support the clinical and commercial development of emerging technologies

An understanding of manufacturing supply chain requirements and the establishment of manufacturing processes and analytical testing to support clinical and commercial product supply

Proven track record in delivering the CMC aspects of regulatory submissions to achieve approval for undertaking clinical trials and marketing authorisation

Has knowledge and practical experience of the current state of the art laboratory equipment used for drug product development and can advise on the use of and interpretation of data generated using such techniques

Compelling evidence of complex technical problem solving

It would be advantageous if the Principal Scientist has:

Experience and knowledge of technologies used in needle-free vaccine formulation

An understanding of the required biological and physicochemical characterisation of vaccines, including techniques important in defining critical quality attributes for products
