Non-Executive Director and Non Executive Deputy Chairman

Charles is a chemist from Cambridge and had almost 40 years of experience in Procter & Gamble, a global company with strong presence in the North East of England, before retiring at the end of 2016. Charles was UK Research Director for Procter & Gamble, leading P&G’s Newcastle and Greater London Innovation Centres, two of P&G’s global centres of excellence in research and development of consumer products. NIC is one of P&G’s key process innovation centres with significant investment in new facilities and a track record of developing new processes from bench to manufacturing scale with a particular focus on improving sustainability. Charles’s P&G career included assignments in Cincinnati, and across multiple product areas and research disciplines.

Charles was also a founder member of the Northern England Science and Industry Council, is Deputy Chairman of the Centre for Process Innovation (CPI, based in Wilton), was a past Director of the Regional Technology Centre North (RTC North) and was a member of the Chemical Growth Partnership, a body of industrialists to advise the government on the chemical and process industries.
