Strategy for Success
The Strategy for Success was created in 2001 by One NorthEast, the regional universities and key industry partners to strengthen links between the region’s research capabilities and industry, improving economic growth via:
- business expansion
- increased exports
- new knowledge and know-how
- further inward investment from multinationals
- a greater number of high-tech start-ups.
To accelerate research and development, five Centres of Excellence were set up, each focusing on a particular innovation area.
In addition to the Centres of Excellence, NStar, a venture finance company, was set up to direct financial support into business and enterprise growth..
The Strategy for Success is driven by One NorthEast’s Innovation, Industry & Science team and receives support from the Science & Industry Council of the North of England, as well as European funding.
