Nigel J Perry FREng
Chief Executive Officer
Nigel is a Chartered Engineer with 30 years of experience in the global Process Industry. He spent over 20 years with ICI, enjoying an international career in engineering, operations, technology management, and project and business management, gaining experience in Asia, Europe and the US, building up a significant strength in the management of technology programmes and project management
From ICI he joined PwC Consulting focussing on the development, consolidation and evolution of the European High Technology Sector including the adoption and emergence of new technologies, and new business models and new entrants.
He was appointed a Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Centre for Process Innovation in 2003. He has taken the company from start-up, to today where it employs over 120 high calibre scientists and engineers and is recognised internationally as a world-class resource supporting the Process Industry in industrial biotechnology and printable electronics. The company is widely viewed as an exemplar of the public and private sectors working together to establish innovation supply chains in new technologies, a vital competence much needed in the UK.
He is also a director of a number of CPI’s subsidiary companies as well as a member of the External Advisory Board of BIOCHEM, the European-wide initiative to stimulate the adoption of the biotechnology by SMEs.
He is a Fellow and the Technical Vice President of the Institution of Chemical Engineers. He is responsible for the formulation and delivery of the technical policy of the Institution through more than 20 international and expert Subject Groups including UK critical issues such as energy diversification and provision, sustainability and carbon reduction, and biotechnology. In this role, he was a member of the Steering Group for the 2009 EPSRC International Review of Chemistry.
He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
He has an MA in Engineering Science from the University of Oxford, and is an alumnus of the Accelerated Development Programme at London Business School and the Entrepreneurship Development Program at MIT. He is a Visiting Professor at Newcastle University.
